The Walking Dead has turned loss on many levels into a reset and become more insightful than it has been in a long time. That might not be what you expect for Survivors of the end times, but it is something well worth watching.
Rick's final episode was full of great acting by Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Lauren Cohan, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I will never look at Negan the same again. The writers are so much better this season.
For the first time, the show seems interested in thinking about what its whole picture will be once it ends. That commitment to thinking about both its future and its past has made The Walking Dead's present the best that it's been in ages.
It's a nice change of pace, showing characters that actually communicate with one another - and especially after seasons that so often had people make hasty and dumb decisions without even talking to their friends and allies.
